eWaterways' Fresh Approach to Cruising is recognised at 2011 Globe Travel Awards

19 January, 2011

eWaterways have had a flying start to the year with a win for 'Innovation in Travel' at the 2011 Globe Travel Awards held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Mayfair on Monday.

A star studded event, attendees were treated to performances from comedian Jimmy Carr, Rebecca Ferguson from X Factor and dance troupe Flawless, all of which ensured the evening got off to a bang!

The award for 'Innovation in Travel' was a hotly contested category between four finalists. eWaterways were in distinguished company with Travelocity, Expedia and Joobili all vying for first place. The overall winner on the night was Expedia, with eWaterways the only company to receive the 'Highly Commended' award in recognition of their innovative travel service.

eWaterways is a one-stop shop for those seeking customised, personal cruise experiences on coastal waterways, rivers and canals as opposed to mass market ocean-going cruise liners. Offering the world's largest selection of small ship cruises, eWaterways' easy to use online reservation service features an incredible array of destinations on vessels that range from restored rice junkets in Thailand, to nuclear powered ice breakers in the Antarctic. eWaterways also has a cruise to suit everyone with expedition, gastronomy, family and wellness being  just some of the possibilities.

As a two way service, eWaterways also provides boat owners, cruise suppliers and travel agents a platform from which to promote their services to the public. The site allows real-time booking and enables vessel owners to upload and manage capacity directly.

Amy Sharpe, eWaterways Marketing Manager, who attended the event said, "It is such an achievement to be recognised by the judging panel which included our travel peers such as Google, Opodo and Thomas Cook and we are thrilled that this was the only award of its kind given out on the night. It means a great deal to us that from a start up just over two years ago we have already received this recognition. The team at eWaterways will continue to bring innovative solutions to the travel industry with a specific focus on the small ship cruise sector".
