Embark

Embark the ship in Mandalay.

Day 1: Mandalay

Board the boat by midday, berthed at the quay in Mandalay. After settling into your cabin, enjoy a welcome drink as the boat sets sail towards Sagaing, one of the ancient capitals of Myanmar. After lunch, enjoy some free time at the open air Kipling’s Bar or on the sun deck while the Anawrahta is approaching Saigaing. Enjoy a tour of Saigaing by horse-drawn carriage sprinkled with many kinds of distinguished ancient monasteries: Bagaya Kyaung a jaw dropping teak monastery built in 1834, which nowadays continues to be a monastic school. Later return to the ship and learn more about some of the long-lasting traditions (Longyi and Thanaka demonstration), followed by an interesting presentation about the history and culture of Myanmar. Enjoy your first dinner onboard and a welcome cocktail in the Kiplings Bar.

Day 2: Ava - Yanderbo

Early risers may enjoy a yoga session on the sundeck. After breakfast join a lecture on Bagan’s history in the Mandalay Lounge, followed by some free time to enjoy the boat's amenities. After lunch, arrive at the quiet, small riverside village of Yanderbo. A unique and fascinating gem of a village where in 1826 the King of Ava signed the Treaty of Yanderbo, signaling the end of the First Anglo-Burmese war. Explore the village on foot, mixing with locals and observing their techniques and skills to produce a variety of pots and utensils. Return to the ship for afternoon high tea. As the ship sails to the next overnight spot Pakokku, pass the confluence of the Ayeyarwady and it’s greatest tributary, Chindwin River. In the evening enjoy a special evening in the Kipling Bar, taking guests back in time to an era of bygone elegance. You may also watch a classic movie under the star at the open air cinema on the sun deck.

Day 3: Bagan

In the morning join a yoga class on the sundeck followed by a leisurely breakfast, as the ship sails southwards to Pakkoku, an old trading town on the western riverbank of the Ayeyarwady. Visit local handicraft vendors and a thriving market giving you an insight of local goods and trading practices. Pakokku is also well known for the production of Tobacco. Continue to the Shwegu Temple, which features incredible, intricate carvings made from rare Yamanei wood. Return to the ship for lunch as it sails to Bagan. The ship will dock at Bagan in the early afternoon where you will disembark. (approx. 2PM).
