A flight from Buenos Aires is included and you will embark the ship in Ushuaia.
Day 1: Buenos Aires - Ushuaia
Fly from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia where you will be met at the airport. From here you can either join a full day excursion to the famous Tierra del Fuego National Park or proceed directly to the ship where you will be served lunch and have access to the Main Lounge while the cabins are being prepared. Settle into your stateroom or suite before the Welcome Reception and your first dinner on board.
Day 2: At Sea
As L'Austral makes her way towards the Falkland Islands, you can relax on board, getting to know the ship and her professional Expedition Team.
Day 3: New Island (Falkland Islands)
Arrive at New Island, the most remote of all the inhabited islands in the Falklands archipelago. New Island is a wonderful port of call, known for its stunning scenery, birdwatching, offshore dolphin sightings, as well as penguins and sea lions. The entire island is a Nature Reserve and is home to over 40 of the Falklands’ breeding bird species.
Days 4 - 5: At Sea
Spend the next two days at sea, relaxing and making the most of the ship's plentiful amenities as she sails on towards South Georgia.
Day 6: Salisbury Plain - Fortuna Bay (South Georgia Islands)
Arrive at the South Georgia Islands, where you will disembark at the splendid Fortuna site amongst the penguins. You will also be allowed to gently approach the sea elephants lounging in the weak southern sunshine. This glacial expanse surrounded by high mountains is also home to no less than 250,000 King Penguins.
Day 7: Grytviken - St Andrews Bay (South Georgia Islands)
Today's port of call is Grytviken, where you will discover the first whaling station and the Grytviken Museum which is home to the tomb of the famous navigator, Shackleton.
Day 8: Gold Harbour (South Georgia Islands)
Today the ship sails around the north eastern tip of South Georgia, where you can enjoy some stunning natural scenery. This is a fabulous spot for observing King Penguins in their natural habitat.
Days 9 - 10: At Sea
You will spend the next two days at sea, as the ship sails towards the Wedell Sea and Brown Bluff.
Day 11: Wedell Sea - Brown Bluff
Today you will sail the Weddell Sea to experience true silence, an enchanting atmosphere and unrivalled calm. Discover a secret reserve of preserved treasure: Here the huge icebergs and the endless ice cap sculpt a landscape beyond compare and you can expect to see Weddell Seals, Fur Seals, penguin colonies and Wandering Albatros.
Day 12: Deception Island (Antarctica)
At the heart of the South Shetland Islands, Deception Island is easily recognisable by its horseshoe shape. On the black sand of the volcanic beaches, the remains of abandoned huts have been overrun by the extraordinary wildlife and here you can find the largest colony of Chinstrap Penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula. Excursions aboard the Zodiacs will allow you to set foot on this expanse of land where more than 100,000 pairs of penguins, Fur Seals and Elephant Seals live side by side.
Day 13: South Shetland Islands (Antarctica)
Spend the day cruising around the remaining South Shetland Islands, known for their spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife.
Days 14 - 15: Drake Passage
Spend the next two days at sea, crossing the the notorious Drake Passage named after the famous explorer, Sir Frances Drake, who sailed in these waters way back in 1578.
Day 16: Ushuaia - Buenos Aires
Your Antarctic Adventure comes to an end as you disembark in Ushuaia this morning. From here you will be taken to the airport to board your flight back to Buenos Aires.
