Embark

Day 1: Buenos Aires - Ushuaia

Catch your domestic flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. You will be greeted at the airport and transferred to Hotel Arakur for a one nights stay. Join fellow travelers and your lecturers for dinner this evening.

Day 2: Ushuaia

After breakfast at the hotel, join an excursion to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. Created in 1960, the park is famous for its mountainous landscapes, lagoons, bogs, and rivers. If you are lucky you may encounter beaver dams, birds, wild orchids, and more. Lunch will be in a restaurant within the Park. Return to Ushuaia and the port to embark L’Austral in the afternoon.

Days 3-4: Crossing the Drake Passage

Spend the next two days at sea as the ship sails through the Drake Passage, a great area in which to observe a large number of sea birds.

Days 5-9: Antarctic Peninsular

Exploring the Antarctica Peninsular will undoubtedly be one of life's unforgettable experiences. Throughout your adventure in the icy world you will find yourself surrounded by spectacular landscapes and exceptional wildlife. Each day, based on ice conditions, the Captain and the Expedition Leader will suggest Zodiac® outings or landings to discover the infinite riches of the Antarctic Peninsula. Glaciers, ice floe, tabletop icebergs, mountain peaks that plunge straight into the sea, volcanic beaches, research stations, enchanting bays, and vestiges of the whaling industry: these are the faces of the Antarctic that will likely reveal themselves to you, in a hushed and surreal atmosphere. You will sail in the wake of Jean-Baptiste Charcot, Adrien de Gerlache and Sir Ernest Shackleton, great Antarctic explorers who, from the 19th century, set out to conquer these remote and uninhabited lands. There will be lectures and information sessions hosted by the naturalist-guides and New York Times science writers: Henry Fountain and James Gorman, covering wildlife, history, geopolitics, the great explorers, climate, environmental protection.

Days 10-11: Sailing the Drake Passage

If there is one place, one sea, one waterway dreaded by tourists, researchers and hardened seafarers alike, it is undoubtedly Drake Passage. Situated at the latitude of the infamous Furious Fifties winds, between Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands, it is the shortest route to Antarctica. Seasoned navigators will tell you that you must earn your visit to the White Continent!

Day 12: Ushuaia

Your voyage ends in Ushuaia where you will disembark the ship and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Buenos Aires.
