Discover the ancient wonders of Papua and Spice

*SPECIAL OFFER** Save up to 30% on full prices. The earlier you book the better the discount available. Please call for latest special offers. Pricing shown here reflects full brochure price only. Launched in 2018, Le Lapérouse is the first of a new series of Explorer ships that remain true to the Ponant spirit, embodying the unique atmosphere that is the cruise line’s hallmark: a subtle blend of refinement, intimacy and comfort. The ship offers guests elegantly designed cabins, spacious suites with large windows, and lounge areas that open onto the outside, this new limited-capacity yacht boasting just 92 cabins and suites will offer you a truly unique cruising experience. Le Lapérouse will be the first cruise ship on Earth to be equipped with a multi-sensory underwater space, called Blue Eye, located within the hull beneath the water line.

Embark the ship in Cairns.

Day 1: Cairns

Arrive in Cairns and board Le Laperouse. Settle into your cabin and explore the onboard amenities as the vessel sets sail this evening and you sit down to your first gourmet dinner

Day 2: At Sea

Spend the day at sea as the ship sails towards Cape York.

Day 3: Cape York

Arrive at the Cape York Peninsula, a large remote peninsula located at the tip of North Eastern Australia. The region has been described as the largest unspoiled wilderness in Australia. The relatively undisturbed eucalyptus wooded savannahs, tropical rainforests and other types of habitat are now recognized for their global environmental significance. At the tip of the peninsula lies Cape York, the northernmost point on the Australian continent, that usually takes travellers 5–7 days over some of the planet’s toughest and remotest roads. The easiest way to “stand on the tip” is to take a luxury voyage, be transferred ashore by ship’s zodiac directly onto the beach and walk the last 500m!

Day 4: At Sea

Spend the day at sea as the ship sails towards Western Papua.

Day 5: Western Papua

Arrive at Western New Guinea, one of the most mysterious parts of the world. Governed by Indonesia, this “land of a thousand cultures” is home to some 44 tribes that have never had any contact with the modern world. Your Zodiac dinghy will take you to the small town of Agats, where you will be greeted by war canoes and a show presenting traditional ceremonies.

Day 6: At Sea

Spend the day at sea as the ship sails towards Triton Bay.

Day 7: Triton Bay

Arrive at Triton Bay, one of three regions in Indonesia’s West Papua province that comprise the Bird’s Head Seascape (the other two are Raja Ampat and Cenderawasih Bay), which is now considered by marine biologists to be the epicentre of the Coral Triangle. Join your expedition team for a zodiac voyage through the spectacular rainforest capped karst islands. Later in the day enjoy the opportunity to explore the richness of the underwater realm.

Day 8: Sebakor Bay

Today the ship arrives at the Bomberai Peninsula, in West Papua. Its islets are covered in ancient forests and surrounded by isolated beaches lying in the heart of marine rich aqua waters. Sebakor Bay is especially renowned for its spectacular network of mysterious water-filled caves, which you will have the opportunity to discover during a Zodiac outing.

Day 9: Kei Islands

The ship arrives at another extraordinary group of islands, The Kei Islands are a natural paradise with brightly coloured coral reefs offering some of the best diving sites in the world. The islands are blessed with kilometres of stunning, yet almost entirely empty, white-sand beaches and a deeply hospitable population. Enjoy a day of swimming and snorkelling on an idyllic uninhabited picture postcard tropical island.

Day 10: Banda Neira

Arrive at the Banda archipelago, a volcanic group of ten small volcanic islands in the Banda Sea. The Island group were also known as the "Spice Islands" of the Ancient World, a fabled prize of colonial powers for more than four centuries. Every colonial power of significance fought for control of these ten small islands that today have become largely forgotten. Explore the streets and find an eclectic mix of Portuguese, Dutch and British architecture, the remnants of a rich and tumultuous history.

Day 11: At Sea

Spend the day at sea as the ship sails towards Darwin.

Day 12: Darwin

Arrive at the town of Darwin located in Australia’s Northern Territory. Disembark the ship after your final breakfast onboard.
